I admit that I never wanted to believe this was a song about a stalker, maybe a man in obsessed love at worst, but no, it's about a stalker. The Police always had a way with mashing their owns songs--combining upbeat melodies with dark lyrics, or in this case the slow, breathy melancholy of a love song with, tada, dark lyrics. Really screws with my head...
