Rights Activists go away!

There might have been a time in the universe when the States had some sort of moral authority and likewise a responsibility to use its influence on other countries to get them to become more democratic, but that time has passed. What with Abu Ghraib, Gitmo, CIA's secret prisons, etc. Sure, we don't mind protecting the rights of "Americans" (as long as you're no darker than off-white and Judeo-Christian), but when it comes to the international community, forget about it. We're not too worried about Iraqis rights, or at least Bush isn't--what'd he say about the number dead? "30,000, give or take." Give or take? Please. Should China and other developing countries become more democratic? Sure. But think about how our own democracy came about--homegrown, and solidified by a common cause--the fight against British Colonialism. So what's the precedent for democracy building? Japan? Germany? Look what we had to do to those countries before they could be democratic--blow them away. If we really want to bring democracy to the Middle East, we have to nuke it. And even Bush isn't crazy enough to do that.
